As the title surely reveals, this game of mafia will be largely focused on information. The goal is to disseminate, sift, figure out what’s real and what’s not. Will you make sense of all the chaos, or get lost in it?
I invite everyone to approach this game as they would any mafia game but with one caveat: The accuracy of any information you initially acquire is questionable at best. The roleset for this game was specifically designed to create misdirection(Wow the title!). This means that peeks and other information based powers have a larger amount of risk than a common mafia game.
This game has a very specific purpose by adding a strong level of misdirection, and that is to move power away from power roles. Here on nD, we celebrate the tradition of "follow the pr". It’s very commonplace and for good reason. The informational power of a cop heavily outweighs most others and once you have one confirmed there is no real reason to follow anyone else. This game aims to break that tradition. Essentially, power roles are a liability. They can be helpful, but just as easily detrimental. As such, I encourage players to use their wit and critical thinking skills as their primary tools. You will not survive by trying to find the cop and playing the "what should I do" game. Your own brain will ultimately be more powerful in this game than any power role.
Specs:
Common Game Type: Open - All rules and roles are posted in the thread and any player may expect answers to any setup questions they ask.
Common Round Type: Speedplay - Day and night phases are combined into one phase. Players may submit actions at any time. Rounds will be 48 hours.
Common Action Timestamp: No Surprises - Voting and actions are held in tight order. Any votes or actions after the deadline will not be counted, even if the Host hasn’t posted Dusk or Dawn yet. For example, if lynch time is 3PM, all votes and lists submitted before 3:00:00PM count and all votes or lists submitted on or after 3:00:00PM will not, even if the Host doesn’t post Dusk until 3:30.
Common Voting Type: Timed Lynch - At the end of a certain amount of time, the player with the most votes is lynched.
Common Tie Breaker: LHLV - In the event of a tie, the player with the Longest Held Last Vote, or LHLV, is lynched. Basically, the player with the most votes just before the tie is lynched. If a player is tied with No Lynch, no player will be lynched regardless of LHLV.
Common Ghost Etiquette: RP Play Style - Once dead, players may post in the thread and join public IRC so long as they don't make game related posts or comments. They may not PM other players about the game or have private conversations on IRC. If you have data that you'd like to share, please, do so before your death. Dead Mafia/Wolf players are given a partial exception and are allowed to PM other Mafia/Wolves. All players are always free to talk with their Host in private IRC or PM.
Common Game Start: Hospitalization - Before the First Round starts, the Wolves/Mafia will choose one player to attack. That player will not be killed, but will be hospitalized and thus can’t vote in the first round.
Alternative R0 Peeks: No Peeps - There is no R0 Peek. Deputies will wait until R1.
Alternate Death Reveal: Full/Last Will and Testament - All players, when they die, will have all information regarding alignment, role, and secondary roles revealed. In addition, all players will have access to a Last Will an Testament: A message that is posted upon player death. By default, this message will show the actions and targets of the dead player. The player has the choice to change this document throughout the game. Whatever the last revision of a player's Last Will and Testament is upon their death will be what is posted.
Roles:
Mafia:
Crime Boss - Peeks as Not Mafia to the Deputy. In addition, if the mafia kill the Bounty Hunter, the Crime Boss gains the ability to exert political influence and hide lynch results for one round.
Consort - Able to roleblock a player each round.
Framer - Able to frame someone each round, making them look guilty to the Deputy.
Village:
Deputy(Normal, Insane) - Able to peek a player each round and will receive a result of Mafia or Not Mafia.
Deputy(Naive, Paranoid, Insane) - Able to peek a player each round and will receive a result of Mafia or Not Mafia.
Bounty Hunter - Able to track one player each round to see which players that player targets. In addition, the Bounty Hunter has a single shot. If they kill the Crime Boss, the Bounty Hunter receives an additional silver bullet. Silver bullets cannot harm villagers.
Vanilliger - Basic villager with no special powers save voting.
Neutral:
Politician - Votes counts for two. Wins automatically at any point if alive and both the Godfather and Bounty Hunter are dead. The Politician being killed by the Bounty Hunter or Mafia team will trigger the same actions as if they killed each other. In addition, the Politician is Tough.
Secondary Roles: (The bread and butter!)
Inmate - Looks like a mafia member to the Deputy.
Determined - Is immune to roleblock.
Tough - Able to survive one otherwise killing action.
Village Idiot - Lynch vote counts for nothing.
Tinker - If a tinker is targeted by a role that peeks for X/Not X, the result that the peeker receives is inverted.
Lovers - If one lover is killed, the other will die also. Commonly given a shared Tough status to compensate.
Paranoid - All peeks a Paranoid player makes are returned as "true" for whatever the peek type was.
Naive - All peeks a Naive player makes are returned as "false" for whatever the peek type was.
Insane - All peeks an Insane player makes are flipped to return false information.
Even Miller - Peeks as Mafia to the Deputy during even rounds.
Odd Miller - Peeks as Mafia to the Deputy during odd rounds.
Vengeful - Triggers on lynch. If triggered, one player is randomly chosen from the voter list and killed.
Because of the nature of certain roles like the Tracker, factional kills will be tied to a single player. The mafia team will have to choose a member to submit nightkill actions and that person will be tied to those actions in the event that they are targeted by the Tracker.
In addition, because of the amount of players, a couple of people will have more than one secondary role.
There you have it. This game is gonna be chaotic, and you won't really be able to hide behind the power roles. Time to show nD what you're made of.

IMPORTANT!!!!!
This game's gonna rock a 3 post round requirement. Failure to do so will result in a warning. Second offenders will be modkilled. 0 posts will result in an instant modkill. I expect ample activity and an exciting and fun game. Looking forward to seeing you all take the stage.
Without further delay,
LET'S PLAY SOME MAFIA!
