Warning to our regulars! [Please read!]

Post by Spato »

It seems there's some scam going on with a person sending links that will get your account hacked. Many of the regulars here in neonDragon have been affected and I am writing this message in order to inform you and warn you about this.

The message will encourage you to follow a link posted in order to recieve free games and I urge everybody to NOT PRESSING THE LINK!

If you've already done so and have been affected then I suggest you try to restore your PC to a backup preformed at a time before you first recieved this message in Steam and clicked the link.

Instructions on how to restore your computer (I got Windows 7, might work for other versions aswell):
Mine is in swedish so I'll try to translate as good as possible in case your word is not exactly the same you will know why

1. Press your Start button, then go to your control panel.
1.1. If not already done so, sort your control panel by categories

2. Go to "System & Security"

3. At the top option (under the category "Operations center") choose the final option "Restore your computer to a previous time".

4. Then you press the button "Launch the system restoration" and follow the instructions (Remember to restore it at a point BEFORE you pressed the link!

-----------------------------

Instructions on how to restore your Steam account (as well as other information)

After dealing with the source of the problem it's time to recover your Steam account. But before you start doing that I suggest you change the password to your e-mail aswell since they might have hacked that aswell. And all the other websites you've visited where a login is required (i.e Facebook, neonDragon or w/e).

After you've changed passwords you start recovering your Steam account. Start Steam, press the "Retrieve a lost account" at the bottom when you're supposed to log in and follow the instructions there. You will recieve a verifiation code to your e-mail that you have to input there, that's why it's important that you change the password to your e-mail adress aswell! After that your account should be restored. Change password and try to improve your account security. Go to settings and work with Steam guard where you have options like having a trusted computer etc.

I might update this thread with more information. If you got any questions feel free to post it here or contacting me in Steam.

Enable your Steam guard in your Steam settings as well, in addition to that don't login to your Steam/email on the PC you clicked the link on in order to change your details do it on an alternative PC @home.

meh its nothing like you get hacked or anything if u press the link i pressed it and went though what it was and it askes for ur steam accaount first then after it goes and asked for ur email and email password and some people are dumb enough to trust them and write email and email password to a unknown site with .com.nu that is not to do anything with steam and valve would never ask for someones email password.

It is sad for the people but i dont get it WHY you would enter your email password to a steam site they have nothing to do with it ..

Btw you get an extra file on ur pc when u click the link thats a weird program that gives u some kind of steam trubble and all you can do it go and scan your pc for the last hour and remove the file that has enterd your pc.

And i dont even have a anti - virus

Its a Trojan virus that usually gets picked up by Anti Virus Programs and Malware programs. Due to it being farely new, some scanners (how good they are) dont/cant pick up this virus untill its too late. I have had this aswell (not due to this link though) and indeed what Spato says works. By following his steps, you restore you computer to the point BEFORE the virus got in your pc. Make sure you keep updating your virus scanner and to keep on scanning. Its the best if you do this before you restore, AND after you restore to make sure everything is out of your pc.

Good Luck!

its a small file that randomly comes somewhere into ur pc and hides itself there you have to scan ur pc for the last hour* 1-5 and see what new stuff that has enterd ur pc and it should be some of them so id say remove all. but im not so good with these stuff so try finding someone that knows alot , all i can say
