Forum addon: "Thank you" button

Hello,
I just installed a forum addon which allows you to "like" specific posts. You will find the "Thank you" button (Image) on the bottom right corner of each post (with the exception of some areas like spam and your own post).

By clicking this button you can show your agreement with the posting, instead of just quoting it and add "+1" or similar underneath it. Thus, postings which basically only consist of (previous topic) quotes are from now on forbidden, when the "thank you" button is available. That means, if you for example agree on a post someone has made on an application, you "thank it", instead of just quoting it. If you have something to add or reply though, you are still allowed to do so.

Some other noteable things:
- The amount of thanks given and received can be seen within ones user profile
- There is a thankslist which is showing how many "thanks" has been given and received
- "Thanks" can be revoked again if you reconsider and choose otherwise
- Spamming the "thank you" button might result in a removal of the right to do so, or a temporary forum ban. But other than that, there's no limit in labeling posts you think are good!
- The reason why it's not available on the spam forum yet, is because "thanks" should label quality postings, and I'm afraid too much would be given away for crap there. However, the thanks option is available on the media section.

I hope you find it usefull and it works out to be a great addition to the forums,
Mati

p.s.: If you just are just about to reply "n1 mati" now - don't! Instead, try out the concept of this addon right away. ;) But feel free to comment with your questions and thoughts.

The button does not show in every thread (and I don't mean the spam section), but it's not where it's most handy, like recruitment threads for example.

Seems interesting!

This forum has ''thank you's'' disabled too.

That's great ! No more "quote only" posts in applications... Always found that pretty "rude" for the applicant.

Good job Mati

Are we gonna have a dislike button as well?

Or can we still quote someone with facepalm pics

There is no need for a dislike button.

- Will start fights.
- Kids will start disliking posts which are good.
- Some people will get bullied (trolls will spam dislike on certain people)
etc

But anyway the like button seems good, but remember. THIS is a new rule, so donĀ“t go all OMG you quoted *Ban plz.
Let the moderators do their job, and avoid spamming/wars.

If you're referring to the news section, it is enabled there. It was just not possible to thank in this topic because it was a global announcement.

Dislike button is most likely not going to come. Facepalming-only in non-spam sections should be avoided anyways, and disagreeing kinda requires to state your reasoning, and thus making "I disagree"-only posts not really meaningful.

You silly goon.

The reason Mati did this is quite simple.

Instead of people quoting people and say agree, leave it empty or just write +1 you can press thanks and it'll have the exact same effect; but without bumping the threads or having to read the same over and over or seeing 30 people saying they agree to what one said... you can simply press thanks and you can see who and how many people agree on the case.

Some people might try their best to get so many thanks as possible, so they might start making quality posts instead of doing half-assed posts... also you can quite much see people's coolness/karma that way... if they are thanked a lot they have probably done good posts.

HOWEVER, I think you should disable "Thanks Toplist" and "Thanks List" as it turns out into a competition instead

Haha thanks for explaining but that's not what I meant lol..
I meant, I didn't quite understand how to use it..
But now i've figured out that when you look at profiles
you can see there when people has thanked and been thanked..
I didn't understand where you could see it,
but I found out that if you thank a persons post,
it shows the thanks underneath it..

Took me a while, but I understand it now..
Thanks though :p

^ FULLY agree with Shadi there.
(reason why I didn't like-like his post is that you otherwise wouldn't really have noticed)

it will not turn out in a competition. mati just told that if there are persons who think to use it on everything they will get the function removed..
